The AP Chinese Language and Culture exam will consist of 2 online free response questions. The total time for the exam will be 45 minutes. The test is open note and open book. Read more about the College Board's academic integrity policy.
Time on the exam will be divided between two questions. Each question will have a 5 minute upload period for students to submit their work. After a student submits their work for the first question, they will not be able to return back to it.
The units covered on the 2025 AP Chinese Language and Culture exam will be adjusted to encourage fairness amongst students who have missed varying levels of school due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Units not covered: Units 5–6
Question #1
Time: 25 minutes
Weight: 50%
Question 1 will consist of the same components as the traditional AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam interpersonal speaking task. The tasks students will complete in 2020 are the same as they would usually complete in the Conversation—the only difference is how they will receive the directions. In 2020, students will receive the directions aloud only, rather than visually. The student will hear the directions twice each, in English.

Time: 15 minutes
Weight: 50%
Question 2 will consist of the same components as the traditional AP Chinese Language and Culture Exam presentational speaking task. The tasks students will complete in 2020 are the same as they would usually complete in the Cultural Presentation—the only difference is how they will receive the directions. In 2020, students will receive the directions aloud only, rather than visually. The student will hear the directions twice each, in English.
