Do PSAT scores indicate SAT scores?

I got a 1400 on PSAT and I am freaking out about the SAT… Can anyone with experience let me know if their PSAT score correlated to their SAT score? According to other sources, it says I am predicted to get a 1480 on the SAT.

College Board claims that the PSAT is an accurate predictor of how you would have done on the SAT if you would have taken that on the same day. For me, the scores matched up pretty perfectly both years that I took the PSAT and SAT.

Well the PSAT is out of 1520 and the SAT is out of 1600 so the scores may vary slightly because of the max score.

But SAT also has more questions. So technically a 1500 on PSAT would translate to a 1500 on SAT.

The SAT is also harder which explains the difference in the totals. In my experience, my PSAT and SAT scores were extremely similar (1330 on PSAT and 1360 on SAT).

I think PSAT is a pretty good predictor. I took the SAT and PSAT in October of my junior year and scored a 1470 PSAT and 1540 SAT… both almost the same amount from the max score.

It was pretty accurate for me. 1160 psat and 1200 sat before studying and then 1420 psat and 1450 sat after studying.

Most of the time, your PSAT score will correlate to your SAT score; however, once you start scoring higher (over 730) the predictor becomes less accurate.

I think the usual trend is that your score will go up by about 50 points. So if you got a 1400 on psat you will probably get around 1450 on sat.

I’m guessing you took the PSAT without prep (as most people do) so if you study at least a little bit for the SAT you will see an improvement in your score.

1400 is a great score! With some solid SAT prep you could probably score in the 1500s. Good luck!
