I’ve been hearing different things about whether or not AP scores matter for getting into college. I have good grades, but bad AP scores and I am wondering if that will affect my chances of getting into a good school. I’ve also heard that it’s bad to not send schools all of your AP test scores, is this true?
Most colleges don’t even consider AP test scores when looking at your application.
If colleges see passing scores, they may take that into consideration when looking at the whole app. However if you report 1’s and 2’s, it will definitely raise questions about how hard the AP classes you took actually were. Colleges look for a rigorous schedule and use AP scores to measure that.
I think AP scores are somewhat important, but SAT/ACT scores definitely outweigh them.
No. I never even submitted my scores until after I was accepted (5’s and 3’s).
Probably depends on the college. I know on some applications they don’t even ask for them/give you the opportunity to report scores, so I doubt they are a big deal at most schools.
That’s a relief. I was stressing because my school doesn’t even offer AP classes so I have been self-studying for AP tests so I could at least have the scores.
If I were you, I would focus on the more significant parts of the application (transcript, essays, SAT and ACT) and also include somewhere in your application that your school doesn’t offer AP. Reviewers will probably find it more impressive that you were able to score well on exams that you self-studied for.
You don’t need to report AP scores until after you are already accepted. Colleges only use AP scores to give credit.
Yeah they definitely matter. They may not matter as much as other things, but they aren’t totally useless.
Getting a good grade in an AP class matters way more because it’s what shows up on your transcript. AP tests only matter for college credit.
According to my friend who already graduated, AP credit didn’t count towards any of his classes. He still had to retake them all even though he passed the tests. For him, AP didn’t matter, but it probably just depends on the school and their requirements.
Lol I think the question was if they matter for college admission not when you are already in college. Thanks for the insight though.
